Extension to rural Cheltenham house
The aim is to create a child-friendly environment with an open plan, yet flexible arrangement and to offer plenty of natural light with views out to the garden. The contemporary design responds sympathetically to the original cottage, satisfying the client brief and keeping within the strict planning policies of scale and aesthetics.
The white render is an appropriate material for the context and crisply frames the Yorkstone element, maximising its impact. Meanwhile, the changes in the plane of the façade create dynamic shadow patterns and a functional sheltered entrance into the house.
